We at the FoF had the pleasure of chatting with Erica Cerra who plays Jo Lupo on Syfy's hit series Eureka....



... Q: What are your thoughts on the convention circuit and meeting with the fans? Is it something you enjoy and are interested in still doing?

Erica Cerra: "It is something I enjoy and will continue doing; I just don't want it to take away from work. I don't want it to consume myself and lose any opportunities to work on other shows. I love doing them; I think it is such a great experience. Every convention I have gone to I have had a lot of fun. Now of course if I can go to conventions in Paris, Germany or Australia. I would love to go to beautiful places as well."


Q:Do you have a favorite episode?

Erica Cerra: "I don't know if I have a favorite one. Collectively last season and this season have been my favorites. I have enjoyed every script for different reasons.

Our Christmas episode this year will probably be my favorite, but I can't tell you what it’s about. I think it is going to be really really neat. I think the fans are going to really enjoy it..."

EUREKA - EURWEB: Salli Richardson Whitfield Discusses Her ‘Eureka’ Directorial Debut and More!

Salli Richardson Whitfield is remembered by many as a more than capable actress with visual beauty of show-stopping proportions. But Salli has proven time and time again that she is far more than just a pretty face, as was illustrated in the hit indie film “I Will Follow” (available on DVD, Aug. 23, 2011).

Though her chops were on full display in that offering, science fiction fans have been tuning in to watch her play Dr Allison Blake on SyFy’s “Eureka” for since the 2006 TV season. In that span Ms. Richardson Whitfield’s aspirations have expanded past merely being in front of the camera. She has recently directed two episodes of the show, the first of which is slated to air Monday (tonight) at 8pm.

I had the chance to speak with her regarding this wonderful opportunity as well as the absence of African Americans in the sci-fi genre, her career longevity and more...



... “My first episode airs (tonight, Monday, August 8), but I’ve already finished my second episode of directing,” said Richardson Whitfield. “What’s great about my episode is that it’s female driven so not only is the director me, a woman, but I have all the girls from other episodes there. It’s big action and movement, which I found that I love to direct. I like a fast moving pace. The second one I’ve directed is the same kind of thing. It’s a disaster episode with a lot of things happening. It’s really giving me a chance to do something things that most women don’t get a chance to do in film and TV. They never get a chance to do visual effects or action stuff. They’re always given drama. ‘Omega Girl’ airs Monday, and the second, which you probably won’t see until next year, is called ‘Worse Case Scenario’...”

"Fargo" speaks.

For the past five years, TV audiences have come to know Dr. Douglas Fargo as one of the resident brainiacs employed by Global Dynamics and living in the small Pacific Northwest town of Eureka, where you can always expect the unexpected. Like many of the brilliant minds working at GD, Fargo has experienced his fair share of scientific mishaps. In fact, the phrase “inappropriately pushed buttons” appears 38 times in his personnel files.

At the beginning of Eureka’s fourth season Fargo - minus his clothes - was transported along with four other residents back to 1947, which is the year the government founded Eureka as a top secret research facility. He and the others eventually made it back to the present, but to an alternate timeline where Fargo is now the director of GD. With some behind-the-scenes help from his friends, he has managed to step up to the plate and admirably fill his predecessor’s much-loathed shoes.

Unfortunately, poor Fargo lands right back in hot water when, in the show’s season 4.5 opener “Liftoff,” Zane Donovan accidentally launches them into Earth’s orbit onboard an antiquated space capsule with limited air. Despite his character’s life-threatening dilemma, actor Neil Grayston, who plays Fargo, could not have enjoyed himself more...




“Most of that episode was just me and Niall Matter [Zane Donovan] in the space capsule,” notes Grayston. “We spent three or four days in that confined space and it got really warm in there because of the lights and just the fact that the capsule itself was so small. There are a couple of scenes where Niall and I are sweating, and that’s not pretend make-up sweat. That was us dabbing ourselves with towels before the take in order to get all the sweat off us.

“So it was hot in there but super fun. I mean, Niall and I are good friends. The two of us work well together and we have the same vibe in terms of how to get the job done. Niall and I actually ended up working together a lot during season 4.5 as well as in the fifth season, which we’re currently shooting. He and I sort of jokingly call ourselves ‘The Kings of Second Unit,’ because if there’s a B-story involving Zane and Fargo in an episode, it’s typically going to be shot during a second unit day with just the two of us, which is always a blast..."
